With the new Grabber Cross A/S, General Tire is launching a versatile and capable new all-season tyre within its proven and trusted Grabber range. The Grabber Cross A/S combines safe and competent on-road driving with confidence-inspiring gravel and off-road capability. Under the motto “Fast roads, tough trails”, the robust new tyre offers good handling on tar roads, protection against aquaplaning, safe driving in both hot and cold seasons, high mileage and good traction when venturing off-road.
The Grabber Cross A/S is specifically designed for crossover vehicles and sport utility vehicles – a segment that has seen exceptional growth globally and in the South African market in recent years. The Grabber Cross A/S is ideally suited to this increasingly popular passenger car segment due to its outstanding all-round capabilities.

Designed for an 80/20 application (80-percent on-road driving, 20-percent off-road) the Grabber Cross A/S provides the combination of a stiff tread and a cut and chip resistant rubber compound. This ensures that it excels on gravel roads and more challenging off-road conditions, providing sure-footed grip, driving confidence and enhanced puncture resistance.
Despite its enhanced off-road capability there is no compromise when it comes to on-road driving, as the Grabber Cross A/S delivers outstanding grip, aquaplaning resistance and wet braking performance on tar roads.
High traction and comfort on all surfaces
For use on dry roads, the tyre designers have integrated support elements between the blocks to make the tread extra stiff and ensure safe performance. The design also ensures even pressure distribution. This means that not only can steering commands be executed precisely, but also longer distances can be driven at higher speeds without compromising mileage. Another advantage is the driving comfort and low rolling noise with high mileage.
Hexagonal blocks with biting edges provide traction on loose surfaces. The edges of the tread grooves are chamfered to further improve off-road performance. In addition, the Grabber Cross A/S features a crossover compound that is highly cut and chip resistant, increasing the tyre’s durability on rough terrain. Transverse and longitudinal sipes in the tread blocks ensure good grip on wet roads, and the open tread shoulder accelerates water evacuation when driving in the rain, effectively and safely preventing aquaplaning.
As with several other products in the General Grabber range, including the road-oriented Grabber GT Plus, the all-terrain Grabber AT3 and the more aggressive all-terrain Grabber ATX, as well as the extreme terrain Grabber X3, the Grabber Cross A/S incorporates General Tire’s latest technologies.
Duragen Technology uses thicker steel belts to provide added stability and protection in both on and off-road driving conditions. Comfort Balance Technology features a cushioned tread that isolates the vehicle from road disturbances, along with an acoustic tread pattern to deliver a remarkably quiet, comfortable and enjoyable driving experience.
In the classification for the EU tyre label, the new Grabber Cross A/S achieves a rolling resistance rating of C or D depending on tyre size and specification, a wet grip rating of C and a rolling noise rating of B. It also bears the “EV Compatible” logo on its sidewall, certifying its suitability for electric vehicles.
32 sizes between 16 and 22 inches
The new Grabber Cross A/S is suitable for a wide range of crossover and sport utility vehicles with and without four-wheel drive.
For the South African market, General Tire offers 32 sizes between 16 and 22 inches in diameter. Depending on the size, the Grabber Cross A/S is approved for speeds of up to 240 km/h (V-rated).
Several of the sizes of the new Grabber Cross A/S range are produced at the Continental Tyre South Africa plant in Gqeberha, which has been a key part of the automotive manufacturing industry in the Nelson Mandela Bay since 1947. More locally produced sizes will be introduced in the coming months.
As with the rest of the General Tire range, the Grabber Cross A/S is now available through most well-known tyre dealers across South Africa.
