  • The Top Employers Institute Global Certification Programme has certified and recognised more than 1 500Top Employers in more than 118 countries/regions across five continents

Netherlands-based Top Employers Institute certified Continental as a Top Employer in South Africa for 2019, marking it as a company that creates an optimal working environment for its employees.

The annual review recognises companies on every continent that provide excellent employee conditions, nurture and develop talent throughout all levels of the organisation, and strive to continuously optimise employment practices.

“Despite having faced a challenging year, our focus on our people did not waiver”, said General Manager of Human Relations, Attie Higgs. “We engaged differently in communicating our challenges, worked closely with our trade union partners and guaranteed open and transparent information sharing on matters directly affecting all employees.”

HR, now more than ever, partners closer with business to develop integrated strategies, Continental’s focus has always been on engendering a high-performance culture, digitalisation and a diversely-driven workforce. This remains the company’s competitive advantage. Continental Tyre SA’s HR approach is founded on the engagement of employees, which goes beyond satisfaction and commitment to enhancing the brand as a Top Employer.

Genevieve Naidoo, Talent Management and Organisation Development Manager at Continental added: “Our clear message is that our success is primarily in our own hands. Our four corporate values – Trust, Passion to Win, Freedom to Act, and For One Another – offer us guidance with this. It is a matter of repeatedly exemplifying these values to one another. Receiving the Top Employer certification reaffirms that our efforts are valid and valued.

About Top Employers Institute Certification Programme

The HR Best Practice Survey encompasses over 100 questions which cover 600 ‘People Development’ practices across 10 topics: Talent Strategy, Workforce Planning, Talent Acquisition, On-boarding, Learning & Development, Performance Management, Leadership Development, Career & Succession Management, Compensation & Benefits and Culture.

Top Employers Institute CEO David Plink says, “To become recognised as a Top Employer, an organisation will have to prove that the implementation of their people strategies enriches the world of work of their employees. The certified participants are a shining example of a dedication to people practices as they continuously commit to empowering their employees for a better world of work. Congratulations!”
