Although the 2020 Geneva Motor Show in Switzerland was cancelled at the last moment because of the Coronavirus situation. Goodyear Dunlop reverted to a digital press conference which SA linked into to announce the launch of the brands latest concept tire design.
The Goodyear recharge tyre concept incorporates a number of innovative features that are built around three pillars – Personalisation, Sustainability and Hassle Free.
At the core of this futuristic tyre design is a reloadable and biodegradable tread compound which can easily be recharged with individual capsules therefore radically simplifying the process of tyre replacement. These special capsules are filled with a customised liquid compound that permit the tread to regenerate plus the tyre adapts over time to different climate circumstances and road conditions to provide a unique driving performance for each individual driver.
At the same time the compound is produced from a biological material and is reinforced with fibres inspired by one of the toughest natural forms of spider-silk to ensure extreme durability and one hundred per cent biodegradability.
Finally, apart from significantly simplifying the tyre replacement process through rechargeable capsules, the tread would be supported by a lightweight , non pneumatic frame as a thin, robust low maintenance construction to eliminate the need for pressure maintenance or downtime related to punctures.
Sebastien Fontaine, Lead Designer at Goodyear’s Innovative Centre in Luxembourg says, “The Goodyear re-Charge is a futuristic concept without compromise that supports personalised and sustainable electric mobility.”
