According to a Goodyear dealer survey, South African tyre retailers would recommend Goodyear’s Wrangler Duratrac RT tyre to their customers for its value-for-money and performance.
Following launch of the Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac RT last year, Goodyear enlisted the help of almost 20 Key franchised and independent tyre retailers to test the tyres over a six-month duration.
The tyres were fitted to participating retailers’ company vehicles, including popular models such as the Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger and Isuzu D-Max, to ensure thorough on-road and off-use on South African Roads and rough terrains.
The test was rigorous, with one participant clocking close to 27 000km on mainly gravel roads. This gave Goodyear real-life data on the performance and suitability of the Wrangler Duratrac RT tyre on South African roads.
Using a scale of one to five –with five being the top score – respondents were required to rate the tyres across various aspects, including performance on gravel roads, wet conditions, deep sand, road noise and tread wear.
For performance on gravel roads, the Wrangler Duratrac RT tyres scored an average of 4,5. For durability, which is indicated by tread wear, respondents recorded a 4,3 average, while performance on wet roads garnered the Wrangler Duratrac RT a 4,5 average, a testament to the tyre’s ability to dispel water and limiting the chances of aquaplaning.
Validating the Wrangler Duratrac RT’s on-road usability was an average score of 4,6 for tar road performance, coupled with a 4,1 average for road noise suppression. Ride comfort on tar also ranked high among respondents, earning the Wrangler Duratrac RT a 4,4 average score.
Asked if they would recommend the Wrangler Duratrac RT to their customers, the vast majority of respondents confirmed they would, citing the tyre’s performance and its price point as key motivations.
Representatives from Tiger Wheel & Tyre, Tyremart, and Hi-Q all commended the tyre’s competitive pricing and outstanding performance. Additionally, the Duratrac RT was praised for its durability, low road noise, and satisfactory performance on diverse terrains like gravel, wet roads, and deep sand. Notably, both Tyremart and Hi-Q representatives positioned the Duratrac RT as the best value option in the three-ply sidewall tyre category.
Manufactured at Goodyear’s Kariega plant in the Eastern Cape, the Wrangler Duratrac RT is a 50/50 on/off-road premium tyre available in 15 sizes, ranging from 15” – 19”. Its bold appearance, and proven performance make it an excellent fit for the current generation of off-road vehicles and enthusiasts.
