Apollo Tyres’ Chennai, India plant has been given the 2024 Energy Management Insight Award from the Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM), a global forum headquartered in Paris, France. The facility was awarded for incorporating key aspects of energy management system, along with measurable benefits such as a 4% improvement in energy efficiency year-on-year and 5,969 tonnes of carbon emissions avoided.
CEM promotes policies and programs that advance Clean Energy Technology. Apollo Tyres said it shared insights on the process and benefits of setting up an energy management system by enabling system adherence through implementing the global ISO 50001 standard. This award is part of the CEM Energy Management Leadership Awards program. With an aspiration to be net zero by 2050, Apollo Tyres said it is working towards creating climate-resilient operations.
The company said it has undertaken the following commitments towards sustainability:
- Achieving a net zero target by 2050, which would entail:
- Improving Scope-1 and Scope-2 emission intensity by 25% by 2026 against the baseline year of 2020;
- Increase in renewable power in total power share to 25% by 2026;
- Improve water withdrawal intensity by 25% by 2026 against the baseline year of 2019;
- Commitment to improving its D&I (Diversity and Inclusion) to 12% globally by 2026;
- Increase usage of sustainable raw materials to 40% by 2030.
