Nexen Tire has recently signed a long-term supply agreement with LD Carbon (LDC) to source recovered carbon black (rCB) to reinforce its strategy to manufacture tyres with sustainable and circular materials.
The agreement aims to enhance the use of LDC’s sustainable materials enabling Nexen to further improve its eco-friendly tire manufacturing capabilities.
Nexen intends to source recovered carbon black from all its manufacturing facilities worldwide including China, Czech Republic and Korea to increase sustainability throughout its value chain from raw material procurement through to production.
The European Union’s planned Eco design for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) will require the use of sustainable raw materials in tyre manufacturing and Nexen is well positioned to enhance its competitiveness particularly in Europe where they account for approximately 40 per cent of its total sales.
Travis Kang, Global CEO of Nexen points out, “Expanding our usage of recovered carbon black is a strategic step that demonstrates our commitment to ESG management and proactive response to global environmental concerns. We will continue to accelerate the transition to eco-friendly materials and establish a tyre production system with low environmental impact from manufacturing to disposal.”
