The Hankook Mexico City E-Prix concluded Round 2 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship Season 12 at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. The event marked one of the most demanding stops on the calendar due to its extreme altitude. As the championship’s exclusive tyre partner and the event’s title sponsor, Hankook Tire & Technology supplied the full grid.
Race Conditions at Altitude
At more than 7,200 feet above sea level, Mexico City hosts the highest-altitude race in Formula E. Reduced air density challenged teams to manage energy usage, cooling systems and tyre temperatures throughout the race.
The circuit rewarded consistency over aggression. Drivers who maintained stable balance and disciplined tyre management gained an advantage as conditions evolved.
In Formula E’s 150th race, strategy and efficiency shaped the outcome. Nick Cassidy claimed the victory, finishing ahead of Edoardo Mortara of Mahindra Racing and Oliver Rowland of Nissan.
Circuit Layout and Tyre Demands
Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez combines long, high-speed straights with heavy braking zones. After the opening sectors, the field funnels into the Foro Sol stadium section, where tight corners compress the pack and amplify tyre stress.
The layout also features the Peraltada curve, which requires careful balance during transitions from fast, open sections into the technical infield. Altitude effects, track evolution and ambient conditions influenced grip levels and tyre temperatures as the race progressed.
These variables increased the importance of stable tyre behavior across the full race distance.
Hankook iON Race Support
Hankook supplied all teams with its iON Race tyre throughout the event. The tire supported energy efficiency while maintaining consistent grip under demanding thermal conditions.
The iON Race’s warm-up behavior allowed drivers to push early. Its stability supported predictable handling through both high-speed and technical sections as conditions shifted.
“Mexico City once again proved how decisive stable tyre behavior is at high altitude,” said Manfred Sandbichler, senior director of Hankook Motorsport. “Across a race that demanded constant adaptation, the iON Race delivered the confidence and consistency teams needed to manage energy, temperature, and balance under challenging conditions.”
Next Up: Miami E-Prix
With Round 2 complete, the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship moves to Round 3 of Season 12. The Miami E-Prix is scheduled for Jan. 31.
The race will take place at the Miami International Autodrome inside the Hard Rock Stadium complex in Miami Gardens. The layout combines high-speed sections with technical corners, presenting a different set of demands following the Hankook Mexico City E-Prix.
