Hankook Tire said it drives greenhouse gas reductions across its value chain and is advancing open-innovation collaborations to develop low-carbon materials.
Hankook Tire received an A rating in the Climate Change category from the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) for the second consecutive year. The CDP climate rating places Hankook Tire among global leaders in climate action and transparency.
CDP is a global sustainability assessment organization. It evaluates and discloses climate change performance worldwide. The group stands alongside the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices as a leading ESG benchmark. In the latest assessment, Hankook Tire met key criteria. These include climate governance, greenhouse gas reduction targets, performance, and disclosure transparency.
Emissions Targets and Climate Governance
Hankook Tire said it drives greenhouse gas reductions across its value chain. This work spans raw material sourcing, tire manufacturing, production, transportation, use, disposal, and reuse. The Science Based Targets initiative approved the company’s 2030 near-term targets and its 2050 net-zero commitment in 2023.
A Climate Change Committee under the Board of Directors leads governance. The committee develops initiatives and sets targets. It integrates climate considerations into management decisions. Teams track progress using life cycle assessment. The company also discloses results to external stakeholders.
Sustainable Materials and ISCC PLUS Certifications
Hankook Tire said it is expanding sustainable material-based production across its global network. The company earned International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) PLUS at multiple sites. These include the Geumsan Plant in 2021, the Hungary Plant in 2023, and the Daejeon Plant in 2025.
These certifications support a unified manufacturing framework. The framework covers original equipment, replacement tires, and motorsports applications. The approach strengthens traceability and lowers environmental impact, according to Hankook.
Materials Development Partnerships
Hankook Tire said it is also advancing open-innovation collaborations to develop low-carbon materials. The company works with ROTOBOOST on turquoise hydrogen-based carbon black. It also partners with Solvay on circular silica alternatives.
Hankook Tire said it participates in government-funded national research projects. It also joins domestic consortia. These efforts validate carbon-reduction technologies and expand commercial viability for alternative materials.
Circular Economy Strategy and Industry Recognition
Hankook Tire continues to advance its E.Circle circular economy strategy, it said. The strategy reduces reliance on fossil-based resources. It also prevents natural resource depletion and lowers carbon emissions.
The company earned the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) 3-Star Environmental Accreditation last year. TIME and Statista also included the company in “World’s Most Sustainable Companies of 2024.”
